Heterologous boosting of nonrelated toxoid immunity during acute Puumala hantavirus infection

چکیده
Persistence of immune memory in humans is a crucial yet poorly understood aspect immunology. Here we have studied the effect Puumala hantavirus infection on unrelated, pre-existing by studying T cell- and antibody responses against toxoid vaccine antigens diphtheria, tetanus pertussis cohort 45 patients. We found that tetanus- -specific IgG concentrations elevate during acute virus infection. Increase was associated with proliferation heterologous cells. Interestingly, increases tetanus-specific persisted year after while pertussis-specific declined rapidly; difference kinetics resembling seen vaccination pertussis. These results suggest persistence facilitated boosting old formation newly encountered antigens. They also show different may be treated differently. Our study gives new insight into how alter memory, shows immunity an impact outcomes.

Detection of Puumala Hantavirus Antigen in Human Intestine during Acute Hantavirus Infection
BACKGROUND Puumala virus (PUUV) is the most important hantavirus species in Central Europe. Nephropathia epidemica (NE), caused by PUUV, is characterized by acute renal injury (AKI) with thrombocytopenia and frequently gastrointestinal symptoms. METHODS 456 patients with serologically and clinically confirmed NE were investigated at time of follow-up in a single clinic. The course of the NE w...
متن کاملPathology of Puumala Hantavirus Infection in Macaques
Hantaviruses are globally important human pathogens that cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Capillary leakage is central to hantaviral diseases, but how it develops, has remained unknown. It has been hypothesized that the pathogenesis of hantavirus infection would be a complex interplay between direct viral effects and immunopathological mechanisms. B...
متن کاملCardiopulmonary involvement in Puumala hantavirus infection
BACKGROUND Hantavirus infections cause potentially life-threatening disease in humans world-wide. Infections with American hantaviruses may lead to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome characterised by severe cardiopulmonary distress with high mortality. Pulmonary involvement in European Puumala hantavirus (PUUV) infection has been reported, whereas knowledge of potential cardiac manifestations is lim...
متن کاملMolecular evolution of Puumala hantavirus.
Puumala virus (PUUV) is a negative-stranded RNA virus in the genus Hantavirus, family Bunyaviridae. In this study, detailed phylogenetic analysis was performed on 42 complete S segment sequences of PUUV originated from several European countries, Russia, and Japan, the largest set available thus far for hantaviruses. The results show that PUUV sequences form seven distinct and well-supported ge...
متن کاملAutoimmune polyendocrinopathy and hypophysitis after Puumala hantavirus infection
Puumala hantavirus (PUUV) infection causes nephropathia epidemica (NE), a relatively mild form of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Hypophyseal haemorrhage and hypopituitarism have been described in case reports on patients with acute NE. Chronic hypopituitarism diagnosed months or years after the acute illness has also been reported, without any signs of a haemorrhagic aetiology. ...
